Welcome to My Personal Page
Hello friends and family,
Arleen and I will be participating in the "Walk to End ALS" in Nelson BC on June 2. I am asking you if you're able to make a donation – whatever you can comfortably afford – to help in finding a cure for this disease and provide assistance to those who are affected. The Walk to End ALS is the largest volunteer-led fundraiser for ALS Societies across Canada. Family-friendly and fun, it unites Canadians in their desire to put an end to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Celebrate hope for a future without ALS. Honour those we have loved and lost. Show support for the 3,000 Canadians and their families living with the disease.Your generous donations support the best ALS research in the country and enable ALS Societies to provide community-based support to people and families living with the disease.
Most of the proceeds from the walk will go to the ALS Society's equipment loan program. Basically, the Society loans all kinds of equipment (including wheelchairs, shower benches, lifts, etc.) to people afflicted with ALS and related diseases. The program really is a lifesaver as equipment is incredibly expensive and unaffordable to most people afflicted with the disease. It has been estimated that the average person will need approximately $130,000 in equipment during the duration of their disease. And bear in mind that that person is unable to work during this period and, quite likely, their spouse/partner will be a full-time caregiver and unable to work as well. Therefore purchasing this equipment is out of reach for the vast majority of people. The equipment loan program truly is a godsend and makes life a lot easier for people in need. I personally have a bunch of equipment from the Society and it is definitely made our lives easier and reduced stress.
Feel free to pass this information on to your friends, family, coworkers and anybody else you think is appropriate. And, if you live in the Kootenay's, feel free to join our team and raise funds on your own. Information is available on this page, or if you have questions just let me know.
Thank you for your generosity!
